How Important Are Impressions on Your LinkedIn Posts?
You’ll have seen posts on LinkedIn talking about about the importance of engagement – comments, likes, and shares – but impressions matter too.
Here’s why:
• The average LinkedIn post engagement rate is around 1% to 2% of impressions. Engagement includes likes, comments, shares, and clicks.
• The number of people who actually read your post (meaning they spend time on it, not just scroll past) is often even lower than the engagement rate – typically around 10% to 30% of those who engage.
Let me put this into perspective with an example. Suppose your weekly posts receive a total of 20,000 impressions:
• The estimated number of people engaging would be roughly 200 to 400 (1% to 2% of 20,000).
• The estimated number of people who actually read your post (including those who do not engage but spend time reading) could be approximately 400 to 1,200 (2% to 6% of 20,000).
This is a rough estimate since actual reading time can’t be precisely tracked without direct metrics. However, a few hundred to over a thousand people may truly be reading your posts from 20,000 impressions.
So even if you only get a handful of likes and comments, remember: your posts could be reaching and being read by 1,000 potential candidates or clients each week.
Every impression is a potential connection. By sharing knowledge and posting authentically, you influence your readers and position yourself as a trusted recruiter.
So if candidates and clients matter to you, (which they obviously do, if you’re in recruitment) ramp up your posting starting from today.
